Sunday, Jan. 27th
10:00 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Well-known Bay Area author Ken Blady will trace the Jewish immigrant experience from the time Columbus set sail (including evidence that Columbus himself may have been Jewish), to the Revolutionary War (yes, there was a Jewish presence there too), the Civil War (slaveholders or abolitionists, Jews were on both sides of the conflict), the Gold Rush (that’s when pioneer Levi Strauss invented jeans), the early 20th century (when so many of our ancestors arrived from the Old Country), and more!
Ken Blady is a Jewish educator and Yiddish translator who is on the faculty of the American Jewish University’s Department of Continuing Education. He is author of the Jewish Boxers’ Hall of Fame, Jewish Communities in Exotic Places and translator of the Journeys of David Toback. Following the talk, there will be a reception with complimentary refreshments. Free parking, suggested donation $5.
This event is co-sponsored by the Judah L. Magnes Museum and the San Francisco Bay Area Jewish Genealogical Society. For more info: adult.educ@yahoo.com ; (415) 678-0327
